Ormond Art Walk Ft. Bob Asbille
June 5 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT
First and foremost, my life and my art are about the sea. When I was twelve, my parents took me to San Diego. Having grown up in Texas, it was my first time seeing the ocean. For years afterwards, my parents would say that trip to California is when they lost me. As soon as I graduated from high school, I left Texas and have lived on the coast. My coastal journeys have taken me to Cape Hatteras, St. Croix, San Diego, Santa Cruz, Naples, The Florida Keys, Charleston, Folly Beach, St. Augustine, and finally, here to Ormond Beach. My art reflects my evolving relationship with the ocean. I love to be under the water, on the water, and next to the water. I dive, snorkel, surf, sail, and walk the beach. I am recharged by the energy and life that I see in the ocean and its coastal landscape.
I have been making art for as long as I can remember. I started with fine art and then moved to graphic design. I spent over 20 years creating graphic art for a living, but I never stopped painting. I have now shifted the full focus of my work to fine art. From college onward, my preferred medium for fine art has been acrylic paint on Canvas, but I also like to experiment with ink and paper as well.
My current work has moved in two directions. I like to paint both abstract representations of the ocean and its creatures, both animal and human. In this series of paintings, I have reimagined the coastal landscape through the lens of my own emotions and experiences. I am the creator. In my second series, I have focused on the broader view of the coast. I have painted the coastline without human intervention. It’s about the water and the land. The color, shape, and texture come from nature and not from me. I am the observer and the interpreter.
This show is about my ocean view, my desire to celebrate and call attention to the diverse worlds of coastal life.
